One of my favorite poems is “The Taxi” by Amy Lowell. This song was born out of necessity. I needed to fill in some space for the podcast and made the conscious decision to create a very stripped down piece of music.
My first inclination was to create something on the classical guitar, as that is my usual “go to” acoustic instrument.
What I came up with at first was good. It was perhaps too complicated and didn’t exactly do the poem justice.
My second choice, the steel string guitar, is what you hear here. The end result is naked and raw, like the poem. One voice, one guitar, one poem, filling in the colors of the night….
