Episode 21 is finally here. I am excited about this particular podcast, as I finally got to work with an analog synthesizer. As a keyboard / piano player, I’ve always loved the sound of synths whether they are digital or analog. All of that being said, analog synths do have a distinct sound which digital technology can somewhat reproduce and often aims to.
Soup of Shadows is the name of the first piece on the podcast. It’s a combination of four poems. I admit the material is dark, brooding and definitely confessional. Soup of Shadows is one of those surprising pieces that evolved from something totally different. What started out as an R & B influenced riff slowly changed into a jazzy, trip hop motif. In the end, I threw away most of the original tracks and kept the bass melody, but played that on the bass guitar instead of using an upright bass sample as I had in the beginning.
It’s better if you listen to the podcast itself, so I’m not going to write all about it here. I will say however, that the next two songs featured are very different from Soup of Shadows.
I hope you enjoy the show.
